Hot Drink - Grog

GrogThere is special glassware to serve grog. The glass has a shaft and there is a glass pestle to place in the glass. The glass pestle prevents the glass from bursting while filling up with boiling water. At first put 2 sugar cubes in the glass and pour in the boiling water. Immediately before serving add the rum, so the flavor won’t volatilize. For a stronger drink add more rum.

Grog Helgoland StyleServe this Grog Helgoland Style as warm as possible using grog glasses with a glass pestle. The glass pestle prevents the glass from bursting while filling up with hot red wine. Pour the red wine in a pot and heat. Don’t let it come to a boil, so the flavor won’t volatilize. Add brown sugar to the glass and pour in the hot red wine. Add one slice of an untreated lemon. Finally add the rum to keep the flavor.

Advocaat - Egg LiqueurUsually it is best to use 90 % bv alcohol (ethanol) for making advocaat. In Germany you can buy 90 % bv alcohol in pharmacies. It’s a little bit more expensive then brandy or schnapps but it doesn’t superpose the refined taste of the eggs. If you are not able to get 90 % bv alcohol you can use brandy, vodka, white rum or clear schnapps for making advocaat. The homemade egg liqueur definitely outmatches the flavor of store bought egg liqueur.

Berliner Weisse mit SchussBerliner Weisse is a top fermented wheat beer, which is slightly cloudy due to the content of barm. The taste is slightly sourish. The alcohol content is very low (approx. 2.7% vol. of alcohol). Compared to other German beers this is one of the weakest. It’s brewed in the area of Berlin and one of Berlin’s delicacies.
